The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.

From the page:
"have you ever smelled the surface of the sun, the inside of a space station, or a medieval doctor's first aid kit for plague victims?
Well, for a limited time, you can, thanks to the curators of curious odors at England's University of Sunderland, who've created a new exhibition dedicated to "extinct and impossible smells."

New study shows that elephants are racist - avoiding those ethnics groups that they find most threatening by categorizing them by sight, smell. No kidding, read the article.

Winter the dolphin lost her tail while still in the wild, and was found in distress and unable to swim. Scientists have now figured out a way to give this creature a bionic (entirely prosthetic) tail and a second chance! Nice find, madmarigold.

Alient Plant-Food For Thought: "Light of any color from deep violet through the near-infrared could power photosynthesis. Around stars hotter and bluer than our sun, plants would tend to absorb blue light and could look green to yellow to red. Around cooler stars such as red dwarfs, planets receive less visible light, so plants might try to absorb as much of it as possible, making them look black."

World's oldest living tree, a spruce in Sweden. Is it just me or does that thing look a bit puny for being 10k years old? Slow grower?
