The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. Albert Einstein

I once had a roommate who wanted to make a tabletop covered in beer bottlecaps. We drank a lot of beer to get her enough bottlecaps. We never did make that table.

Study shows that humans are attuned more toward immediate danger (a fly ball hurtling toward your head) than long-term threats (can anyone say global warming?). We're designed that way, and are evolving slowly to take long-term threats seriously. Question is, will we survive long enough for that evolutionary process to do any good?

From the page: Julius Shulman took a photograph in 1960 that made millions dream of a perfect life: two women seated in a glass house seemingly suspended in mid air as the twinkling lights of Los Angeles beckon below. Nearly 50 years after the famous photo of Case Study House #22, the man many consider the finest architectural photographer in history finds himself a cult figure for a new generation that covets the minimalist mid-century modern architecture he took around the world.

Nope, they're a danger too... Is NOTHING SACRED ANYMORE? GODDAMN EXPERTS, JUST LET ME CONTINUE MY LIFE IN BLISSFUL IGNORANCE!

I do not support the New Yorker cover of the Obama's (see my last post!) but I do believe in showing both sides of a coin. Read through for editor David Remnick's reasoning behind this controversial cover.
